… recover 8 blocks of dried leaves
The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old woman, Rakiya Ahmed, for alleged dealing in dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp, a banned substance in the country.
This was contained in a statement by DSP Buhari Abdullahi, Gombe Police Public Relations Officer (PRO).
“The arrest was part of the three significant breakthroughs recorded by the operatives of the Command in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.
“On 08/09/2025 at about 1830hrs, a patrol team attached to Anti Violence Squad arrested one Rakiya Ahmed, aged 53 years, at Barunde Quarters, By-pass Area, Gombe, found in possession of eight blocks of dry leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis sativa).
“The suspect and exhibits have already been secured in custody, while the investigation is ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the appropriate unit for prosecution upon completion.
“Also, on 08/09/2025 at about 0935hrs, detectives attached to Gona Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted and arrested one Auwal Suleiman, aged 36, of Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe, Nasarawa quarters.
“The suspect was found in possession of a tricycle with registration number YLA 536WL, reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
“Upon interrogation, he could not give a satisfactory account of the said tricycle, while preliminary investigation revealed that the tricycle had earlier been stolen from where it was parked around Wuro Biriji, By-pass Quarters, Gombe.
“Consequently, the rightful owner was traced and identified, the scene of the crime was visited, and a search warrant was executed in the house and premises of the suspect.
“However, the investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged in court.
“Furthermore, on the same date, 08/09/2025, at about 1500hrs, one Bello Safiyanu of Hayin Kwari, Misau Quarters, Gombe, reported at Hayin Kwarin Misau Outstation that on 07/09/2025 at about 2300hrs, while returning home from work, he was attacked and robbed near his residence by four young men.
“The young men have been identified as: Ibrahim Saleh, 18 years; Umar Isah, 18 years; Hassan Yau, 18 years; and Haruna Isah, 22 years, all from the same area.
“The suspects, armed with machetes, conspired among themselves and robbed the victim of six measures of rice and beans valued at ₦8,000; Six measures of sugar valued at ₦15,000, one handset (360 model) valued at ₦37,000 and a cash sum of ₦30,000.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives from Gona Division swung into action and successfully arrested the suspects.
“During the interview, they voluntarily confessed to the crime. Six measures of rice and beans were recovered as exhibits. The scene of the crime was visited, and a search warrant was executed. Investigation is still ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted upon completion,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Bello Yahaya, commended the gallant efforts of the detectives and patrol team in these breakthroughs.
He reassured members of the public that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
The statement added, “Members of the public are further encouraged to continue providing useful information to the Police to aid the ongoing fight against crime.”
