Nigeria’s fully integrated telecommunication company, Globacom, held students and members of the university community of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, spellbound as it treated them to an unforgettable night of fun with its exciting Glo Campus Storm
The concert held last Friday at the Faculty of Engineering Bus Park, and it featured impressive artistes. Asterix, a fast rising hip hop act, fired the first strong musical salvo with his hit tracks ‘Emotions’, ‘Okpeke’ and ‘Yapa’ which wowed the crowd. The next act to feature on the night was new hip-hop sensation, Runtown, whose performance was explicitly wholesome, as he dished out track after track to the delight of the crowd. His ‘Lagos to Kampala’, ‘Walahi’, ‘De Boi’ and ‘Baby Answer’ rocked the show.
The entrance of Jude Abaga, popularly known as Mr. Incredible, (MI), sent the guests into a frenzy as they cheered endlessly to register their excitement. And MI rose up to the occasion, proving that he remains the undisputed Africa’s Rapper Number One.
The last act of the night was the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya. The Niger Delta ‘philosopher musicologist’ was not at the show for music alone as he took time to lecture the crowd, particularly the students, on the need for them to face their studies and make the best use of their academic time. Timaya counseled: “Don’t be deceived, education has a role to play in your individual lives and the best rewards you all can give to your parents, who have sacrificed much for you, is to be the best in your academics. After that, you can choose to be whatever you want to be; but education first”.
The anchor of the show, the prolific jokes merchant, Gordons, dished out several hilarious jokes which got the audience rocking with laughter and wishing for more. The combination of DJ Tops and DJ Lambo, who came to choreograph MI’s performance, gave the show an additional impetus as the crowd danced to the melodious waves of hits dished out from the jukeboxes.
Besides the music performances and comedy by Gordons, there was the accompanying thrills and frills of the beauty pageant held by Globacom to select the UNIZIK “Glo Campus Data Dude” and the “Glo Campus Data Diva”. The contest produced ten winners from the university, five each in the male and female categories.
In the male category, Njoka Raymond came first as UNIZIK “Glo Campus Data Dude” with a prize of N100,000, while four others: Okafor Humphrey, Ezeofor Agafenos, Jacob Evans and Amazonwu Chukwuebule won N50,000 each. They were joined by five finalists in the “Glo Campus Data Diva” including the winner, Onukwufor Chiamaka, who won the star prize of N100,000 while Chiamaka Edeh, Uchendu Blessing, Ekwebalam Jessica and Ogbuniba Linda Ngozi won N50, 000 each.
The ten lucky winners are expected to join 230 others from different institutions to compete at the grand finale for the mouth-watering prize of a scholarship worth N1 million, Glo Brand Ambassadorial contract and invitation to attend all classy events organised by Globacom such as the Glo-CAF Awards, Glo Slide ‘n’ Bounce concert and the Glo Laffta Fest comedy shows.
