The Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief Alaba Lawson (MFR), has stressed the need for stakeholders in Yoruba land to give higher premium to the advancement of the Yoruba tradition and culture in order to mitigate against the imminent effects of the incursion of Western culture on Yoruba cultural heritage.
Chief Lawson also stressed the importance of promotion of the value of womenfolk as important stakeholders to the growth and development of the society.
The Iyalode of Egba stated this recently in her message on the installation of Chief Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi as the 14th Iyalode of Ibadanland on Friday, July 12 by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji sequel to the approval of her nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Commending the Agba Akin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, specially, for his supportive roles to the new Iyalode of Ibadanland, Chief Lawson said: “Women’s roles in an institution cannot be overemphasised. I know very well that our dear Iyalode of Ibadanland will live up to expectations.

“I know that Iyalode Oyekanmi will join hands with Kabiyesi Olubadan and others to uplift the womenfolk in Ibadanland, Yorubaland and the entire nation of Nigeria.”
Iyalode Lawson expressed gladness that history repeated itself 44 years after the installation of the new Iyalode as the Bada Iyalode on October 17, 1975 by her elevation to the position of Iyalode of Ibadan.
She lauded Oloye Alabi for what she described as his “sterling qualities of respecting our dear Yoruba tradition and culture.”
