The newly-installed Otunba Akeweje of Orile-Itesi in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Alhaji Abeeb Balogun, has called on the government to give more constitutional roles to traditional rulers in the country.
He said this will go a long way in ensuring governance gets to the people at the lowest rung of the society.
Balogun, who is the Chief Executive Office, CEO of ABNIM Travels and Tours, when he was installed as Akeje by the Olu of Orile Itesi, Oba Adeniyi Oluwagbemiga Emulu. The installation was performed by the Olu of Owode, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo.Â
While bemoaning the state of roads in the community, he appealed to the government at all levels to give priority to the remote areas in the areas of rural development and electrification.
Balogun said: “I am highly honoured to be given this title of Otunba Akeweje Orile-Itesi, I am happy. I want to assure you that I will not stop doing what I have been doing for my people.
“Government should give the Obas more roles in governing the people. Our Obas know their people more than the government.
“Roads in the grassroots should be taken seriously. All the rural roads are not in good shape at all. Government should repair them to ease the sufferings of rural dwellers and motorists.”Â
In his remarks, Oba Emulu said Balogun was honoured for his contribution to the growth and development of the land, revealing that he had been sponsoring education of many indigene students in the community.
