NIGERIANS have been advised to regularly check their health status to prevent spike in blood pressure and sudden death.
The Amir of the Faith Unites Muslims Charity Initiative (FUMCI), Ustadh
Muhammad Saheed Subair, gave the advice at this year’s edition of the organisation’s annual medical screening on hyper-tension, diabetes and ma-laria, with distribution of free drugs, held in Lagos.
The event tagged ‘Project Fit for Ramadan’ also serveD as one of the events marking the 10th anniversary of the organisation.
In A remark, Subair advised Muslims to eat healthily and avoid noncommunicable diseases.
He said the motive behind the medical outreach was to prepare Muslims ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and also to assist residents to know their health status, thereby enhancing the life of the people that have health challenges.
According to him, “taking care of our health is one of the demands of Islam and it is part of our responsibilities as Muslims to live a fulfilled life.” He said: “We give praises to Allah (SWT) for taking us this far in the propagation of da’ wah.
This medical outreach, as we are all aware, is held in preparation for Ramadan. It is aimed at preparing us health-wise for the Ramadan fast.
“It is also significant in that it signposts the marking of our 10th year as one of the foremost Islamic organisations in the country.
“The last 10 years has seen
FUMCI propagating Islam and contributing to societal growth through charity and Islamic competition and, of course, our annual ‘Project Feed-a-Soul’ during Ramadan fast.
“It has been Allah all the way. And I thank all our sponsors and supporters for their support and for being a partner on the path of Islam.
“What more can I say than to advise Muslim and non-Muslim participants to take good care of their health and heed the doctor’s advice.
They should avoid junk food and eat right because taking good care of our health is part of what Islam preaches.”
The leader of the medical team, Dr Taoteek Mahmud, said eating a healthy diet of fresh and natural foods such as vegetables and fruit, limited amounts of fats and oil and regular exercise reduces the risk of developing chronic and non-communicable diseases such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Dr Mahmud urged Nigerians to live a healthy lifestyle and frequently check their health status to prevent avoidable death.
