US President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping set of new tariffs on goods imported from dozens of countries, including Nigeria, with rates climbing as high as 41%.
The move, revealed ahead of a key August 1 trade deal deadline, is part of what the White House described as a push to reduce America’s trade deficits through the use of emergency powers.
According to Trump, the new measures aim to enforce “reciprocal tariff rates” to ensure that US exporters receive fair treatment.
