He joined the EGOT winners club on Sunday as a producer on Music by John Williams, which won Best Music Film at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
Spielberg, 79, was not present to accept the award. The film’s director, Laurent Bouzereau, accepted on his behalf and thanked Spielberg and fellow producer Ron Howard for helping “tell the story of one of our greatest music voices ever.”
The documentary focuses on the life and work of John Williams, 93, who has composed scores for films including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List.
Spielberg had previously won multiple Emmys and Oscars for projects such as Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan.
EGOT stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, and it’s the title given to those who have won all four major U.S. performing arts awards.
Each award recognises excellence in a different field: television (Emmy), music or audio recording (Grammy), film (Oscar), and theatre (Tony). Achieving the EGOT is often called the “grand slam” of American show business.
