The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has unveiled its latest Air Quality Index, revealing that Agege and Surulere rank as the areas with the most hazardous and very unhealthy air quality in Lagos State.

Released on Tuesday, the index indicates that Agege recorded a concerning score of 103 per cent, classifying it as hazardous and signalling poor air conditions for its residents.

Following closely is Surulere, which scored 76.1 per cent, categorising it as very unhealthy.

Other areas listed include Mushin with 47.3 per cent (unhealthy) and LAMATA Kosefe at 46 per cent (unhealthy).

The Lagos Port at Apapa was next on the list with a score of 36.4 per cent (unhealthy), while Badagry and Moloney Street reported scores of 23.8 per cent and 20.7 per cent, respectively, both classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Egbeda recorded a score of 15.7 per cent, and NIMET Oshodi followed with 14.1 per cent, both categorised as moderate.

The General Hospital in Ikeja and LSDPC Estate on Lagos Island registered scores of 12.6 per cent and 12.1 per cent, respectively, also indicating moderate air quality.

In contrast, Lekki emerged as the area with the best air quality, scoring 10.1 per cent, while LASEPA rated its own air quality at 7.6 per cent, also considered good.

In response to the findings, LASEPA acknowledged that the air quality in Lagos may not be ideal, but assured residents that efforts are underway to improve it.
