Fulani herdsmen warned against invasion of farmland

cattle herdsmenTHE Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kogi state chapter on Tuesday said no fewer than 31 of their members were killed between January and October this year.

Apart from this, the association also warned Fulani herdsmen to stop destroying farmlands across the state or be ready to face the law for their action.

According to a communique at the end of a one-day stakeholder meeting of the association, signed by the state secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammed, warned that it was ready to make his members face the consequences of their actions if they further destroy farmlands.

The group said it was wrong for herdsmen to herds their cattle into any farm and therefore destroy such farms.

The group however lauded security agencies in the state for their efforts at reducing crime rate, demanding that more efforts should be concentrated but on the Kogi East senatorial.

The association claimed that demand became necessary because their members that were killed were from the zone.

According to the communique, MACBAN called on the state government to incorporate its security wing into the Kogi State Vigilante Service to further strengthen the outfit.

It added that fighting crime was a collective responsibility of all in the society, calling on corporate organisations, community leaders, traditional rulers and well-meaning individuals to join the fight against crime in the state.
