French police have opened an investigation after pigs’ heads were discovered outside several mosques in the Paris region, according to the city’s police chief.
“Every effort is being made to find the perpetrators of these despicable acts,” Laurent Nunez wrote on X.
The heads were reportedly placed on public roads in Paris and two nearby areas, a source close to the investigation told AFP.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the incident, describing it as “outrageous” and “absolutely unacceptable.”
“I want our Muslim compatriots to be able to practice their faith in peace,” he said.

France hosts the largest Muslim community in the European Union, alongside the largest Jewish population outside Israel and the United States.
Reports from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights indicate a rise in “anti-Muslim hatred” and “anti-Semitism” across several EU countries since the Gaza war broke out in October 2023.
The conflict began when Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023, prompting a relentless military response on the Hamas-run enclave.
