Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group, have neutralised four suspected terrorists and rescued a kidnap victim in Anambra.
The operation took place on August 21, 2025, in the Awa community of the Orumba North local government area.
According to the state police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a camp used by the insurgents.

The well-coordinated operation lasted for over 15 hours and resulted in the successful rescue of a kidnap victim in Anambra who had been held hostage despite the payment of a ₦20 million ransom.
During the fierce gun battle, four of the criminal elements were killed.
The police recovered several items from the camp, including two pump-action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, and a locally made hunter’s gun.
A radio transmission box and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also found, along with various vehicles, including a black Lexus RX 350 and three Toyota Camry cars. Additionally, sleeping materials and other personal belongings were recovered from the site.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring safety.
He stated that extensive operations are ongoing to track and arrest other fleeing suspects and destroy remaining criminal camps in the state.
He noted that further developments will be communicated in due course.
