An accident occurred recently in Ikwette community, near the base of Obudu cattle ranch in Cross River State has claimed four Catholic seminarians life, while nine others sustained injuries.
The victims, who affiliated with the Enugu Catholic Diocese, were on a trip to the ranch when their vehicle reportedly experienced brake failure.
Eyewitness reported that the group had just finished a guided tour of the Obudu Mountain Resort and were descending the hill when the tragedy struck.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that at the time of the incident, the bus, owned by the Enugu Catholic Diocese, was carrying 13 people.
It was learnt that emergency responders from the Ranch Resort, with assistance from the Nigerian Army, quickly arrived at the scene, provided immediate medical care and rushed the injured to the nearest hospital.
The Diocese confirmed that the group was led by a Reverend Father and primarily consisted of seminarians in training. The names of the deceased were not disclosed until their families were notified about the incident.

“This is an incredibly painful time for the Church and the affected families,” stated a Diocese representative, adding “We request prayers and support as we face this challenging period,” he said.
The Cross River State government has sympathised with families of the victims involved in the accident.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, Gill Nsa, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.”
In light of the tragedy, the state government is reaching out to the affected families to offer necessary support.
