The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development has launched a survivor-centred transitional justice and reconciliation project in Borno State to support communities affected by over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency.
The programme, introduced in Bama Local Government Area, is designed to strengthen peacebuilding, promote gender inclusion, and give victims a voice in reconciliation efforts across Borno State.
The Executive Director of the Foundation, Hamsatu Allamin, said the project is part of wider initiatives across the state and disclosed that the organisation already works with more than 42,000 victims and survivors of insurgency through 13 platforms.
According to her, the project will be implemented in five wards of the council, with community representatives drawn from traditional rulers, women’s groups, and youth associations. She added that the initiative is supported by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Chairman of Bama Local Government Council, Modu Ali Guja, described the town as one of the communities most devastated by the insurgency and called for more attention to education as a means of addressing radicalisation. He appealed for the extension of the project to Banki, one of the worst-affected areas in the council.
The Shehu of Bama, Dr. Umar Ibn Kyari Umar El-Kanemi, pledged the full support of the traditional council and assured that community leaders would be mobilised to embrace the initiative.
Council officials, including the Secretary, Bello Alhaji Musa, and the Deputy Director, Ibrahim Buba Galadima, also expressed support, noting that the council and the Bama Emirate had launched a Peace and Reconciliation Movement to complement external interventions.
