Foundation supports elders in Ibadan with cash, food items

In celebration of this year’s Independence Day, the Dr. Abbey Akinoshun Foundation (DAAF) continued its annual tradition by donating cash and food items to the elderly in the Kajola community of Ibadan, Oyo State.

This gesture aims to provide the elderly with a sense of belonging and allow them to partake in the Independence Day celebrations.

Dr. Abbey Akinoshun, the foundation’s founder based in the United Kingdom, expressed through the organization’s coordinator, Mr. Adewale Onipede, the importance of honoring the elderly for their past contributions to the nation’s development.

He emphasized that regardless of the professions they held during their active years, each individual has played a role in shaping their local communities and the country at large, including contributing to tax revenues.

“As a result of this, they need to be celebrated always so that they can know that the generations behind theirs appreciate their efforts at nation-building,” Dr. Akinoshun stated. Each beneficiary received a support of N10,000.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Pa Lamidi Ibrahim thanked Dr. Akinoshun and DAAF for their continued support, especially during these challenging times in the country.

“We know how difficult it is in the country today, so for an individual to bring together elderly people and give them money is something we really appreciate,” he said.

Madam Abibat Kehinde, another beneficiary, highlighted DAAF’s consistent support during festive periods, noting that they received assistance during Easter and Ileya as well.

She also praised Dr. Akinoshun for providing a solar-powered borehole for the community, which has eased the burden of accessing clean water.

In addition to celebrating the elderly, DAAF also honors widows during festive times like Easter, Ileya, and Christmas.

The foundation runs outreach programs to support the underprivileged and periodically visits Adeoyo Hospital to assist patients struggling to pay their hospital bills or purchase medications.
