The Sokoto Liberal Democrats Media Foundation (SOLID) on Sunday organized a one-day sensitization workshop for journalists in the state.

The workshop, themed “The Press as a Political Tool for Good Governance,” was designed to train journalists in the state on the ethics of the noble profession.

In his welcome address, the chairman of SOLID in the state, Alhaji Sani Umar, stated that the workshop aimed to equip journalists with knowledge about journalism ethics. He highlighted the establishment of SOLID in 2006 as a platform for journalists to change the narrative of governance in the state through ethical and solution-based journalism.

He assured that the ministry would continue to support the foundation to ensure that journalists in the state discharge their duties in line with professional ethics.

Three papers were presented during the training, focusing on topics such as the complexities of government house reporting, the press as a political tool for good governance, and the interplay between new media and conventional information dissemination. These sessions were led by Muhammad Gazali Garba, Abubakar Auwal Imam, and Aminu Benji, respectively.

In his closing remarks, the secretary of SOLID, Abubakar Umar, commended the state government for supporting the successful hosting of the workshop. He assured attendees that similar workshops would be organized regularly to promote and encourage factual journalism in the state.
