EGO Foundation, in collaboration with Access Bank, successfully kicked off its highly anticipated “Waste to Wealth” programme in Onigbongbo Local Government Area, Lagos. The programme, which aims to transform waste materials into valuable and profitable resources, will expand to Ifelodun LCDA and 10 other local government areas across the state.
The initiative is designed to promote environmental sustainability while empowering individuals through eco-entrepreneurship. Participants at the Onigbongbo launch were engaged in interactive, hands-on workshops that demonstrated innovative methods for converting everyday waste into eco-friendly products. From creating decorative gift bags from old newspapers to crafting table mats from discarded drinking straws, attendees showcased the potential of waste materials as profitable resources.
Executive Director of EGO Foundation, Toluwase Olaniyan, emphasised the broader impact of the programme: “The ‘Waste to Wealth’ initiative is about recognising the value in what many see as useless waste and turning it into something valuable and income-generating. We are dedicated to building a future where waste is seen as a resource, not a liability. This is an important step toward environmental sustainability and economic empowerment, and we are thrilled to have the support of Access Bank and other partners in making this vision a reality.”
According to the foundation, the “Waste to Wealth” programme seeks not only to reduce the carbon footprint of communities but also to foster economic resilience by encouraging participants to see waste as an opportunity for innovation and entrepreneurship. It said the programme aligns with its mission to build a greener and more sustainable future, where environmental preservation and economic empowerment go hand-in-hand.
With its next stops at Ifelodun LCDA and 10 additional local government areas, the programme is expected to reach even more communities, empowering thousands of individuals to turn waste into wealth while fostering a culture of sustainability in Lagos State.
