Foundation holds Ramadan lecture in Osun gov’s honour

A non-governmental organisation, Leovest Reassuring Hand Foundation, held its annual Ramadan lecture on Monday at Ibokun Town Hall in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The event, which also included the distribution of food items to community residents, was held in honour of the Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The lecture was sponsored by philanthropist and prominent indigene of Ibokun, Dr Olatunji Awodiran, and was attended by dignitaries, including government officials, Islamic scholars, and others.

Speaking at the event, Islamic cleric and Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salman Hussein, charged Nigerians on the importance of selfless service to humanity, making sacrifices for the betterment of society and mankind.

In his lecture, which centered on the theme, ‘Importance of Good Governance to Society and Power of Du’a from Charity Beneficiaries’, Sheikh Salimot urged well-meaning Nigerians not only to care for their family members but also to show kindness to those around them. He also commended Governor Adeleke for his notable achievements in Osun State.

He emphasised the importance of giving back to society once one achieves success in life, particularly focusing on supporting orphans and the elderly. Salimot praised Dr. Awodiran for founding the initiative, which is well-known for providing assistance to the needy in the community.

The Chief Imam said Nigeria would be a better place if more Nigerians could emulate such acts of charity and kindness. He also urged Nigerians not to look down on the poor, but to treat them with dignity and compassion.

Sheikh Salman Hussein reminded Nigerians that death is inevitable, and everyone will eventually return to God to give an account of their lives. He stressed the importance of living a life worthy of emulation, preparing for the afterlife, and avoiding sinful actions.

He also urged Nigerian youths to embrace hard work and refrain from evil deeds in their pursuit of success.

He said, “After taking care of your parents, it is important that those around you, such as residents of your hometown, benefit from your wealth.”

The foundation distributed food items, including rice, beans, semovita, spaghetti, garri, and fruits, to over 1,000 residents of Obokun Local Government. The foundation is also known for its monthly food distribution to residents in the community.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Obokun Local Government, Prince Adelani Owoeye, expressed appreciation to the philanthropist for his gesture. Owoeye, who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the PDP, Isaac Aworinde, described the Ramadan lecture as a significant event.
