As part of its efforts to put smiles on the faces of the people in the society, a non-governmental organisation, Fetofmi Charity Foundation, on Thursday, donated food items and clothes to assist over 100 aged, widows and people with disabilities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The foundation was established with the mission of helping people with disabilities to become active and equal members of the society.
The items donated include food items, cloths, home items, snacks, among others.
Speaking at the event, founder of the foundation, Mrs Toluwalope Ogunkoya, said the gesture was borne out of her passion for the underprivileged and making them better in society.
Ogunkoya said: “What we are doing here today is to put smile on the faces of the people and make them feel a sense of belonging despite their challenges.
“The foundation has been involved in donating food items to the elderly and care of children in Lagos and we decided to move out of Lagos.
“Today, we are giving raw food items like rice, beans, and other home items which we believe will last them for days.
“This is a movement that started in Lagos; over time, we have had it in different parts of Lagos but we just felt let’s move outside Lagos, let’s really meet our targets audience which are the elderly and that is why we are here today at Idi-Arere area.
“We don’t have family members here but we just want to make the elderly people happy and they received us well despite the fact they didn’t know we were coming.”
He also encouraged other well-to-do individuals to emulate what the foundation is doing, by putting smile on the faces of people.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Kehinde Alamu, commended the foundation for the donations and urged government at all level to emulate them.
“We need the help of the government now, not until the election period where they will be sharing foods but they need to come to the aid of the elderly people new,” she said.
