Foundation donates multi-billion naira medical equipment to Osun community

A non-profit organisation known as “SAGA Foundation” donated a multi-billion naira worth of medical equipment to the Ede community in Osun State over the weekend, with assurance from the state government that all equipment would be effectively utilised.

While commending the foundation, ably led by its Chief Executive Officer, Shola Agboola, for its humanitarian services during the official launch of the medical equipment at the Springfield Development Foundation, Hospital Road, Ede, the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, assured the foundation of continued support from the state government, emphasising that “Osun will stand by SAGA in all its endeavours.”

Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, Governor Adeleke appealed to the SAGA Foundation to provide technicians who can assist the state government in maintaining the substantial equipment, reinforcing SAGA’s mission.

He remarked further that “Osun State is one of the poorest states in Nigeria with a health index; we are very poor; you have started well with this donation to us; we will put it to good use.”

“We also need more, especially in the area of human resources. We are very weak in human resources; we need more help in the maintenance of this equipment. We would like you to donate an engineer to us and consultants who will be operating this equipment at our secondary healthcare facility. We lack consultants who are going to be users of the equipment.”

In his own address, Shola Agboola, the founder of SAGA Foundation, clarified that the organisation is a non-profit dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need and shared SAGA’s mission of providing essential medical equipment and supplies across Africa and supporting education with supplies and computers for enhanced learning.

According to him, “This sophisticated medical equipment is not just a machine; it represents a symbol of compassion, hope, and healing. In each piece of equipment, we envision the potential to rewrite the stories of countless families seeking better medical care in Nigeria. ”

“Of course, undertaking humanitarian activities requires significant financial resources. You may wonder where the money comes from. Perhaps I could have waited until I became as wealthy as Dangote or Tony Elumelu to embark on such massive endeavours. This is where Canada comes into the picture. ”

“In Canada, opportunities are provided for anyone striving to make an impact on society, regardless of who you know, as long as you have the passion, the determination, honesty, and integrity. These qualities were all it took for me to be entrusted by one of the best countries in the world to do what I do for humanity.”

“I am proud to have delivered consistently and diligently for the past 10 years to contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare system.”

“What Canada saw in me was the passion, and that passion has provided within a decade over $400 million dollars in medical equipment, educational resources, and social empowerment services across virtually all geographical zones in Nigeria, from Kebbi to Jigawa, Niger to Abia, Imo to Bayelsa, Delta to Ogun, and, of course, Osun State and several other places, including projects in Kenya and India. ”

“It is important to emphasise that while Canada provided the equipment and supplies, the shipment, clearing, and transportation were completely up to me without any grants or funding from either government or corporate bodies in Canada or Nigeria. So, I had to use personal funding and depend on friends and family who shared the same vision to finance the shipment and transportation of these resources.”

“This is why I would like to express my sincere appreciation and recognition to His Eminence Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin, Alhaji Rasaq Adeleke, Hon. Felix Osuolale, and Austin Ugbebor, who have consistently provided us with support and assistance when we needed it.”

“Since 2013, although we have made significant contributions to healthcare in several states in Nigeria, no state government, I repeat, no state government has ever made any contribution to our humanitarian efforts, except for one governor. His Excellency, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, became the first and only governor in Nigeria to offer assistance with the shipment and logistics of medical equipment.”

“We are deeply grateful for his understanding and sensitivity towards our limited resources and the challenges that we face. Thank you for recognising our efforts and acknowledging that we are doing our best even though it wasn’t easy. ”

Chairman of the Hospital Management Board, Dr Kingsley Akinroye, expressed gratitude to SAGA’s CEO, Mr Shola Agboola, for supporting healthcare services in Ila and Ede communities, urged the foundation for further assistance, and assured that the State Hospital in Ede would effectively utilise the medical equipment.

Also, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), represented by Engr. Yakubu Bassi praised Shola Agboola as an illustrious son of Osun State and a patriotic Nigerian in the diaspora. He assured the SAGA Foundation of NIDCOM’s full support for future humanitarian projects.

Engr. Bassi implored the management and staff of the General Hospital in Ede to make judicious use of the equipment for national development. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of donation to Governor Adeleke and Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal for the benefit of the communities and humanitarian purposes.
