Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), on Friday, empowered Barr. Luis Ojoho Ishaya with a one-year law reform of the Nigeria weekly law report.
Barr. Nana Ganki Hassan, the Taraba State Women Lead of the NBAWF, noted on behalf of the National Chairperson, Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammed, that the gesture was to support her professional research and boost productivity.
Hassan also disclosed while making the presentation at the NBA house in Jalingo that the decision was NBAWF national chairperson’s deliberate mandate to support female lawyers who have taken the challenge of establishing a law firm.
She encouraged other female lawyers to emulate Barr. Ojoho to stage a board challenge against the idea of limiting the profession into a practice basically for men.
“This gesture is a support from our national chairperson, Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammed to empower one of the female lawyers who has established a law firm.
“It is very rare in Nigeria to see a female lawyer establishing a law firm, so our national chairperson has made it a mandate to support female lawyers who take the board step.
“Due to the belief that law practice was a profession suitable for men, while female impact is not really been felt, the Nigerian Bar Association decided to create the Forum to mentor and empower active practicing female lawyers to compete in the profession.
“The national chairperson has empowered one of our own with the whole of 2024 volumes of law reform of the Nigeria weekly law report.
“On behalf of the female lawyers in Taraba, I wish to sincerely commend our national chairperson for the decision as the forum looks forward to supporting more female active practicing lawyers in the future”. She stated.
In his comment, Barr. Martin Milkman the Taraba state NBA Chairman commended the NBAWF National Chairperson, Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammed for the gesture, noting that the idea would encourage other female lawyers to step up their spirit of practice.
Meanwhile, Barr. Luis Ojoho Ishaya while responding, expressed that the support was a moral burster to pursue her professional dreams.
While thanking the NBAWF and the National Chairperson, Princess Huwaila Ibrahim Muhammed for the support, she expressed that the gesture would henceforth serve as an established challenge to mentor and empower young female lawyers to grow.
