Former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has congratulated the management and staff of Nigerian Tribune Newspapers on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, praising the publication’s significant contributions to societal development.

In a statement released by his media aide, Crusoe Osagie, on Saturday, Obaseki lauded the Tribune for consistently upholding the vision of its founding fathers, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Hannah Awolowo, by championing good governance, transparency, and citizens’ rights over the decades.

“I heartily felicitate the board, management, and staff of the Tribune Newspaper Group on the occasion of its 75th anniversary,” Obaseki stated.

“As one of Nigeria’s most enduring and respected media establishments, founded by Nigeria’s first Premier of the old Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and his wife, Hannah, the Tribune has continued to shatter the glass ceiling of credible journalism, upholding the principles of truth, fairness, and accountability.”

The former governor commended the newspaper’s fearless approach to journalism, emphasizing its impact on societal progress. “Through its fearless and responsible reporting, the newspaper has set the gold standard in the profession, effectively playing its societal watchdog role, providing a strong voice to millions of Nigerians, and contributing significantly to the progress and development of our country,” he said.

Obaseki further praised the Tribune for its resilience in adapting to the challenges of an evolving media landscape while staying true to its core principles.

“As you celebrate this diamond jubilee, I acknowledge and celebrate your tremendous impact and salute the courage, dedication, and expertise with which you have navigated the turbulent media space, remaining steadfast in advocating for good governance, transparency, and the rights of citizens, as envisioned by your founding fathers,” he added.
