
FORMER Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloysius Iyorgyer Katsina-Alu is dead.
Justice Katsina-Alu’s death was confirmed on Wednesday morning by the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The former CJN, a native of Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State, was born on 28 August 1941.
Katsina-Alu was elevated to the office of Justice of the Supreme Court 1998 and grew to be the 12th Chief Justice of Nigeria, the office he held between December 30, 2009, and August 28, 2011, before he retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age for Justices of the apex court.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, other Justices of the Supreme Court and Chief Judges of some states are currently attending a conference organized by the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law in Montreal, Canada.

Katsina-Alu, who died at the age of 76, succeeded Idris Legbo Kutigi as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in December 2009 and was in office till August 2011.
