Ford Motor Co. is recalling 22,664 F-150 pickup trucks in Canada due to faulty rear axle hub bolts that could lead to a loss of power to the wheels and increase the risk of a crash or injury.
A Transport Canada recall notice said the bolts may break, causing the axle shaft splines to wear and leading to a loss of power. It added: a loss of power “can increase the risk of a crash or cause the vehicle to roll away if parked without the parking brake applied.”
The recall applies to 2023, 2024 and 2025 models equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty optional package.
This recall, listed as number 25S82, expands on an earlier recall (23S65, Transport Canada recall no. 2023-705) that covered 2021, 2022 and 2023 models with the same issue.
It is also part of a wider recall affecting about 103,000 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States.
In May, Ford also recalled 11,409 F-150 Lightning electric trucks in Canada due to steering wheel control problems.
Transport Canada said Ford will contact affected owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicles to a dealership to have the rear axle shafts replaced.
