Flood sweeps away another teenager in Lagos

A teenager was on Monday swept away by a flood in the Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State, Tribune Online reports.

The teenager, simply identified as Ayisat, was said to have been swept away by a strong flood at Alapafuja axis of the Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate.

According to a statement on Tuesday morning, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it has already commenced search and rescue operation for the victim.

After hours of search and rescue within the community, the agency said emergency officials have also concluded plans to extend their operations beyond the immediate locality.

The agency noted that past experiences have proven that strong floods have been known to transfer victims far from incident scenes.

Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke–Osanyintolu, who announced the incident, enjoined parents and guardians to ensure adequate safety of their children whenever it rains, adding that people should stay away from drainages and canals in order to avoid been swept away by strong floods.
