Severe flooding has devastated parts of Tureta Local Government Area in Sokoto following heavy rainfall on the night of Wednesday.
Preliminary reports indicate that the flood destroyed over 50 residential buildings, submerged farmlands, and swept through several market stalls, leaving dozens of families displaced and local businesses in ruins.

Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to the Chairman of Tureta LGA, Malam Kabiru Tureta, described the situation as “deeply troubling,” noting the widespread impact on livelihoods.
“Our people have lost homes, crops, and sources of income. We are awaiting a full assessment to guide the necessary emergency response,” he said.
Authorities are expected to commence a comprehensive damage assessment in the coming days to determine the extent of destruction and mobilise relief efforts.
Meanwhile, affected residents have called on the Sokoto State Government and disaster management agencies to provide immediate assistance.
