A real estate firm in Ogun State, Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, has provided industrial solar-powered street lighting for all its estates and link roads to their neighbouring communities in the state.
The project forms part of efforts heralding the official launch of its first Ecostay Apartments scheduled for September 2024.
CEO of the firm, Babatunde Adeyemo disclosed that at least N20 million had been invested in the street lighting project for both the estates –Pelican Valley Estate in Laderin, Pelican Brief Estate, Pelican Ecostay Apartments and Pelican’s Greenish Acres Farm Estate in Kobape– and the link roads on their corridors.
Adeyemo also reiterated the firm’s commitment to putting all necessary infrastructure in all its estates and turn them to Dubai.
Over 10 neighbouring communities benefited from the street light project including Kobape, Egbeda, Galatia, Masha, Mosunmore, Ijo-Alafia among others.
Speaking on the development, Baale of Masha Village, Chief Sadu Sotunde, commended Adeyemo on the project and other support extended to the community by him and his firm.
Chief Sotunde, thereafter, urged the state government to fix the road where the solar lights were installed in order to add more value to the community and residents.
He said: “The first day I saw the solar street lights, I was so delighted. I have since been praying day and night for the CEO of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited that did it for us. In December 2023, he donated foodstuffs and cash to a number of window of my village. I want to charge the state government to support the vision of this man by providing other social amenities and construct asphalt road for our communities.”
Also, the Balogun Mosunmore, Chief Biodun Adebeso, said the street light project has aided the community in crime fighting.
“The street lights have illuminated our community and its environment and warded off criminals who perpetrate evil acts when the community was dark,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the members of landlords’ association of Ijo-Alafia community, Mr. Sobowale Najeem, noted that the project has been beneficial to the community since it was installed, stating that good road construction is what the community is now asking from the present administration.
“The street light is a blessing to us in this community. Fom Kobape to Masha, there is no time you cannot work or drive in the night and you will not have fear due to the street lights,” he said.
An elderly villager, Chief Oridota Olalekan, revealed that what the real estate firm did for the community is unprecedented.
Oridota Adewale Micheal, who spoke on behalf of the youth, described Adeyemo as ‘God-sent’ to the community, who through the project, has aided easy movement of youths in the community at night.
He said: “Since the solar lights were installed, youths can walk without fear in our community. And we thank the CEO of the firm for his kind gesture to widows in this community.”
