The Federal government has tasked stakeholders in the aviation sector to ensure that Nigeria remains at the forefront of global aviation standards.
Speaking on Saturday at the 25th-anniversary symposium of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo explained that aviation safety is not a one-term achievement, “but a continuous process of adaptation and improvement to advancement of technology, rising passenger demands and increasing globalisation”.
He said the dynamics of aviation safety are evolving rapidly and the symposium will provide an avenue to attend to these changes and “ensure that Nigeria remains at the forefront of global aviation standards“.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Keyamo stated that “your being here today is a demonstration of personal and collective resolve to chart the course of repositioning the Nigerian aviation and air transportation sector.
“I do not doubt in my mind that we are all here because we believe in the just cause of building a vibrant, economically viable, and internationally competitive aviation industry for our dear country, Nigeria,
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this gathering promises to demystify the endemic traumatic and chaotic trajectory of the Nigerian Civil aviation and the air transportation system with a view to providing lasting solutions for a new era for the industry,” the Minister said.
In his welcome address, the Director General of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo revealed that “it is with great pride and joy that I stand before you today as Director General at the time we are marking a significant milestone; the 25th Anniversary of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
“Over the past quarter-century, NCAA has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of the aviation sector, ensuring safety, regulatory excellence, and fostering growth within the industry.
“This symposium is a testament to our collective commitment to strengthening aviation standards, enhancing collaboration, and shaping the future of air transportation in Nigeria”.
He said; “Right from the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), to the ARB, then Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA), to DSRAM and DERAM, to the current NCAA which we are celebrating, our journey has been one of dedication, resilience, and innovation.
“NCAA built on the growth achieved by its predecessor organizations through remarkable transformations, from regulatory reforms to advancements in aviation safety and service delivery.
“However, as we celebrate current achievements, we must also look ahead to embracing new technologies, improving operational efficiencies, and fostering partnerships that will elevate our aviation industry to even greater heights” he stated.
Stakeholders from both the private and public sectors of the aviation industry attended the symposium.
