The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Ahmed Alkali, has established an investigation committee to determine the cause of the train derailment on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor and to propose solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This decision comes in response to a train derailment that occurred on August 26, 2025, near Jerre, while a train was traveling from Abuja to Kaduna.
According to a statement from Janet McDickson Noah, the Director of Press and Information, the Minister has directed that a committee comprising all relevant stakeholders be formed to investigate both the immediate and underlying causes of the accident.
The committee will also make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences and identify ways to improve the safety and efficiency of rail transportation in Nigeria.
Expressing concern for passenger safety, Alkali appointed Musa O. Ibrahim (DOOPST) as the Chair of the investigation committee.
The members include: Prof. Danwaka Shuaibu (STA, HMT) – Member; Engr. Zirra Finbar (D, RTS) – Member; Barr. Omotola Olusegun (D, Legal) – Member/Secretary; Dr. Kayode Opeifa (MD NRC) – Member; Engr. I.A. Ebuniwe (Inspector, Railway) – Member; Representative of Technics Engineering, Architecture Marketing Nig. Ltd – Member; Representative of CCECC – Member; Representative of a Civil Society Organization – Member; One male representative for male passengers – Member; and One female representative for female passengers – Member.
