FG procures insurance cover for civil servants

The Federal Government has procured insurance cover for civil servants taking effect from 9th February 2023 to 8th February 2024.

Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, who made this known in Abuja, said the government took the initiative to ensure that its employees are comprehensively provided insurance cover.

The Head of Service also disclosed that the government has cleared the backlog of death benefits for over 1,500 deceased Officers to their beneficiaries from 2021 to date.

She explained that the payment was made to the next of kin of the deceased officers.

Yemi-Esan said: “What we refer to as backlog is that there were some periods from the time past where insurance cover was not provided for the civil servants.

“That means government did not pay insure premiums for the civil servants for whatever reason but civil servants still die within that period and the law says to pay the next-of-kin of those people that died. Those people that died when there was no insurance cover is what we termed as backlog” she said

She further noted that what the government did is to accumulate the people that were not covered but died, then write to the Ministry of Finance that “this group of people were not insured” and as such the need to approach insurance companies for government to pay their entitlements.

“So, over a thousand five hundred of the next-of-kin of this group of people have been paid entitlements that were due to them,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, attributed to God, the successes being recorded in the efforts to transform the Federal Civil Service in the country towards effective service delivery to the citizenry.

Director, Communication, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Ahmed in a statement said Yem-Esan was at Exousia Church of God, Abuja for a Special Thanksgiving Service, marking the end of a successful 2023 Civil Service Week.

She admonished civil servants to dedicate themselves to God and allow Him to transform them in their various careers.

The Pastor of the Church, Pastor Kunle Shoyele, while praying for and blessing the civil servants, pleaded with them to make use of their good offices to impart peoples’ lives.

He also cautioned them about carrying their personal problems to their places of work, terming it as counterproductive and inimical.
