The Federal Government has pledged to restore Borno State’s former glory after over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency, which crippled the state’s development.
The Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, delivered this message in Maiduguri on Monday, noting the numerous challenges Borno has faced, including the Boko Haram insurgency and the recent devastating floods that submerged parts of the city.
He assured that President Bola Tinubu is committed to improving the lives of Borno residents through regional development initiatives and the North East Development Commission (NEDC), ensuring inclusive and impactful development.
“President Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to the revitalisation of Borno State,” Maigari stated. “We will work tirelessly to rebuild and restore the state to its former glory.”
The Minister called on the Borno State Government to support the ministry’s activities across the state, stressing the importance of collaboration for effective development.
Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur, commended President Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Regional Development, highlighting its significant impact on the people of Borno State, particularly in humanitarian intervention.
Kadafur also praised the NEDC for its numerous projects in the state, noting their contribution to the ongoing recovery efforts.
“The establishment of this ministry demonstrates the President’s commitment to our region’s development,” Kadafur said.
“We appreciate the support and look forward to continued partnership.”
Maigari also visited the Centre for the Study of Violence Extremism at the University of Maiduguri, built by the NEDC.
The Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital appealed to the Federal Government for assistance in reviving the hospital, which was severely damaged by the recent flooding.
He explained that the floods had reduced the once well-equipped facility to a mere primary health centre.
The Chief Medical Director cited the NEDC’s previous support, including the provision of life-saving devices, theatre equipment, a burn centre, boreholes, and ambulances.
The Minister assured the hospital management that the Federal Government, through the NEDC, would ensure the hospital’s restoration to full functionality.
He promised swift action to address the facility’s needs and ensure it can once again provide quality healthcare services to the people of Borno State.
