The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has said the Federal Government is yet to show enough political will needed to end the lingering insecurity problems across the country.

Bishop Mamza stated this today while speaking with journalists shortly after presiding over the closing Mass of the 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council held in Yola, Adamawa.

He expressed great concern over the continued killings, kidnappings, banditry, and attacks on communities and other criminality in Nigeria, noting that the persistent insecurity has left many Nigerians living in fear and uncertainty.

Bishop Mamza noted that despite repeated assurances by government authorities, the security situation in many parts of the country has shown little improvement, raising questions about the commitment of those responsible for protecting lives and property.

“The government must go beyond promises and take decisive action to address the security challenges confronting the nation,” he said.

The safety of Nigerians should remain the foremost responsibility of this administration and everybody.”

“We are tired of failed promises.”

Bishop Mamza called on the Federal Government and its security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve the welfare of security personnel, and ensure greater collaboration among these agencies to effectively tackle criminal elements in our society.

He also called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace while supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring security and national unity.

The cleric spoke at the conclusion of the annual Diocesan Pastoral Council, where priests, religious, and lay representatives from across the diocese reviewed the activities of the local Church and deliberated on issues affecting both the Church and the nation.
