W HEN the average person hears the word ‘strike’, what comes to their mind is disruption in one activity or the other. Certainly, no one would pray for an indefinite strike.
Now that resident doctors are on strike across the country, Nigerians are groaning and many things have been disrupted.
Some of the reasons adduced for the strike were unpaid salaries, enrolment of resident doctors into the integrated personnel payroll information system and the non-promotion of members who have met the requisite criteria.
I appeal to the Federal Government to look into how the salaries and allowances of the striking doctors can be paid. This should be done in time.
It should also address the alleged non-promotion of some doctors in spite of their qualifications.
Promoting the doctors at the right time will encourage them to work harder and be more committed to their profession.
