After my recent visit to the Federal Polytechnic Offa, my alma mater, for the first time since graduating, I underwent a significant shift in my perspective regarding the common mantra of “Nigeria go better.” Initially, whenever I heard people express hope for a better Nigeria, I interpreted it negatively. I had assumed that the country was irreparably damaged due to the actions of corrupt leaders. The individuals in power seemed more focused on self-aggrandisement, which, in my view, hindered the progress of the nation.
However, my recent visit to the Federal Polytechnic Offa under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru completely changed my perspective. The level of development and transformation I witnessed during my visit instilled a renewed sense of hope in me. It became evident that Nigeria still possesses capable leaders who are genuinely passionate about fostering growth and development.
Indeed, the present Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa is the true architect of change and transformation. He is goal-oriented and possesses a visionary approach to elevate the institution from its current position to the next level.
Change does not require an extended period to take effect; it begins with a single step. In just about one year, the Polytechnic has experienced growth equivalent to that of five years, thanks to the rapid transformation spearheaded by the Rector.
My first encounter was with the front page of the mini campus. Initially, I felt like I had stepped into a different school altogether, with the green and white paint adorning the trees outside the mini campus and the newly revamped perimeter fence. Seeing the gateway of my alma mater transformed into a campus-like environment was truly remarkable. The Rector has given purpose to those trees, adding aesthetic value to the outskirts of the polytechnic. Whether approaching from Osun State or Ilorin, one cannot help but notice the Polytechnic due to its visually appealing appearance. Kudos to the Rector for creating such a welcoming campus environment.
My curiosity led me to inquire about the building near the mini campus gate, and I was informed that it is intended for a bakery (FEDPOFFA Bread). It was at that moment that I began to shower prayers upon the Rector for achieving the milestone of establishing a bakery after 32 years of the Polytechnic’s existence. While other Polytechnics have progressed beyond this point, the Federal Polytechnic Offa has remained stagnant. But who is to blame? Absolutely no one; it all comes down to leadership choices.
During my exploration, I couldn’t help but notice the long-abandoned internal roads at the Polytechnic mini campus had been rehabilitated. The mini campus, once resembling a bustling market square and motor garage during my ND years, now exudes a serene and visually pleasing environment. All the linkage roads have been upgraded, starting right from the main road—a remarkable transformation indeed.

As I continued, I came across a newly renovated ICT building. A structure that had been deteriorating for many years has now been given a much-needed facelift. What caught my attention even more was the appearance of Wi-Fi connections labeled ‘Fedpoffa Cloud.’ It felt like a miracle to me, as Wi-Fi connectivity was something I never experienced during my four years at the institution. This development serves as a testament to the fact that with the right mindset, even the seemingly impossible becomes possible. Fedpoffa now boasts Wi-Fi with enhanced internet connectivity—truly a wonderful feat.
At one point, feeling thirsty, I purchased some water and noticed that the nylon packaging bore the label ‘FEDPOFFA Water.’ I couldn’t help but smile and jokingly asked if the water was imported from elsewhere. The woman selling the water cheerfully replied, “No, we didn’t import water from outside; it’s the work of this Rector.” It nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes, realizing that God had blessed the Federal Polytechnic Offa with a visionary leader.
It was indeed a shame that in the past, the Polytechnic established in 1992 couldn’t even produce basic amenities like pure water. Kudos to the visionary leader who made it a reality.
As I wandered around, revisiting the venues where I attended lectures during my school days, I stumbled upon a market. Curious, I inquired about what was happening, and I was informed that all forms of street markets had been relocated to a designated area. Previously, the Polytechnic community was littered with small shops and markets, defacing the institution’s image. However, under the leadership of the visionary Rector, an organized market has been established. This development is a clear indication that the institution is now operating with a well-thought-out master plan.
Just a few days ago, I came across news online that the Polytechnic has been granted hosting rights to organize the Nigeria Polytechnics Games for the year 2024, marking the first time in history. This presents another opportunity for infrastructural development, particularly of the Polytechnic stadium and other sporting facilities. Although I have never met the present Rector in person, I will refer to him as “Akorede Kolawolu.” These names, to my non-Yoruba audience, signify the architect of good fortunes.
The Mini Campus, which had been abandoned for many years, is now thriving, all thanks to the visionary leadership of the Rector.
Under the full authority of the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru, numerous records have been set in the history of the Polytechnic within just one year of assuming office. He is a rare achiever and a goal-getter. May God continue to crown his efforts with success.
