The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for the promotion of 915 directorate-level officers.
Speaking at the start of the exercise on Tuesday, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, said the participants were drawn from the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), the Secondary Education Board (SEB), the Education Secretariat, and other departments and agencies.
He explained that the CBT examination was introduced to ensure that officers promoted to substantive director positions are equipped to handle modern, technology-driven challenges in the workplace.
Eze noted that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike — who established the Commission with the approval of President Bola Tinubu — was determined to resolve the backlog of promotions that had been pending for years.
While revealing that the verification exercise to determine the actual workforce of the FCT is still ongoing, Eze disclosed that the commission discovered numerous cases of age falsification in service records. Those found guilty, he said, have been directed to retire from the service.

“We started with a verification exercise to establish the number of workers in the FCT. Having almost completed that, the next step is to clear the backlog of promotions over the years.
“When the Minister assumed office in 2023, there was a backlog of outstanding promotions dating back to 2019. He cleared all those up to the level of deputy directors.
“As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, we introduced technology to eliminate interference and undue pressure. We are the first commission in Nigeria to introduce CBT tests for promotions. The idea is that once the test is completed today, the results will be out by next week, leaving no room for manipulation,” he said.
