Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified efforts to address pressing security issues, particularly the influx of almajiris and other persons into the territory.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja while briefing them on the outcome of the security meeting which was held with the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.
He noted that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has directed that a committee should be set up to tackle the issue and submit its report within two weeks.
The committee, according to him, comprised of members of the FCT police, army, DSS, and NSCDC, aims to work with area council chairmen to identify schools where almajiris are being harbored.
He also said that they will profile those organising the Almajiris schools, gather their photos and phone numbers, and develop strategies for collaboration and monitoring.
“We want to work out means of working with them in future and also find out what and what government can do to ensure that they are kept in check and also to find out the content of the training they are giving the children in their various schools,” he said.
Disu said the move was part of being proactive and not waiting for any security breach to happen.
Meanwhile, the CP urged all residents of the federal capital territory FCT, to be security conscious and take note of any new person coming into their areas.
“Take note of the influx of people coming into the federal capital territory and report immediately to the appropriate authorities”, he said.
Furthermore, he hinted that the administration has made several arrests, with five persons currently under investigation for posing a security risk to the territory.
The police commissioner emphasized the importance of being proactive, rather than reactive, in addressing security concerns.
“We don’t want to wait and react, we want to be ahead of security issues,” he said.
