FCT: We have officially commissioned 50 projects, 10 more to go—Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, said the FCT Administration has officially commissioned fifty infrastructure projects, with ten more to be commissioned before January 2027.

The Minister said this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Water Supply Network to Bwari Satellite Town in Bwari Area Council, to mark the President’s third anniversary in office.
Addressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by the First Lady, Senator Remi Bola, at the event, Wike said the number does not include other infrastructure projects that were not officially inaugurated.

“This is the 50th commissioning of the project. So, I’m talking of official commissioning. I’m not talking about the unofficial ones. And before January next year, God willing, we’ll commission another 10 projects before we’ll go for campaigns.”

The Minister, who commended the President’s support for the successful execution of the infrastructure projects, also said that he depends on the prayers of the first lady to guide the President from diverting support from the FCT administration.

Wike said his previous experience as a governor and minister had taught him that performance in office depends largely on the backing of the President.

“I’ve said to so many people, I was a governor and I was a minister before. You can be a minister… You see, if you don’t have that support, it is difficult for you to perform. You must have that support.

“And that’s why, each day I wake up, I tell my wife to pray a lot; I don’t know how to pray very well. The only best prayer I can pray is ‘God, let me come back safely today.’

“But she prays very well. I say, ‘Continue to pray that Mr President will not look away from us.’

“And Mr President has given FCT all the support required to change the narratives. And that’s why we, on our own part, say we will not disappoint Mr President. We are happy for the support, and we’ll continue to do everything to make sure that the people of FCT are also happy,” Wike said.

The Minister also implored the government to improve the lives of citizens, adding that the improvement was what the Tinubu administration was striving to achieve.

“When people are happy, those in authority will be happy. But when people are not happy, those in authority are bound not to be happy. After all, what is governance? Governance is to make people happy, to make changes in their lives, and to make them better. And that’s what Asiwaju Tinubu is doing,” he said.

While officially inaugurating the water project, the President recalled that after reviewing the proposal submitted by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, he immediately approved the project to address years of dependence on untreated boreholes and streams.

“I gave him a direct order: ‘Go out there, mobilise the best, and fix it.’ Today, we are commissioning this massive, state-of-the-art 198-kilometer water pipeline network,” the President said.

The president also commended the FCT minister for accelerating infrastructure delivery across the territory, describing him as “Mr. Project.”

The acting executive secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, while giving the overview, said that the project originally scheduled for completion in December had been substantially completed ahead of schedule.

He noted that beyond providing potable water to Bwari and neighboring communities, the project generated significant employment opportunities during construction and would improve the health and well-being of residents through reliable access to safe drinking water.
