Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Olusola Odumosu has asked the 532 newly recruited officers of the Command to shun bribery and other forms of corrupt practices to remain on the job.
Odumosu gave this warning on Thursday in Abuja, during the passing out parade of the 2023 recruits who have completed their six months rigorous training at the FCT headquarters, warning the officers also against acts of indiscipline.
“You must shun bribery and other forms of corrupt practices. It is on record that those who have engaged themselves in unwholesome practices as a short cut to making wealth found themselves in taking the shorter and ignominious route out of the corps. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” Odumosu said.
He advised the personnel to acquaint themselves with the Public Service Rules, the NSCDC condition of service, scheme of service, and standard operational procedures, reminding them that their confirmation as staff of NSCDC did not imply that they had arrived.
He further warned the officers that in NSCDC, there is nothing like accidental discharge, adding that once any officer finds himself or herself holding a weapon, rules of engagement must continually sound in the head.
“Be warned that this is a regimented organization with zero tolerance for any acts of indiscipline. Here there is no unionism, no activism, and no aluta continua. Respect for and regard for seniority is mandatory irrespective of age and size.
“Note also that, you are also expected to maintain a high level of discipline, professionalism and competence in the discharge of your duties,” the Commandant stated.
While urging the officers not to use their uniform and weapon to intimidate or harass any citizens, Odumosu told them to respect the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians and always be guarded by the NSCDC watchword “Humility and Integrity in Service delivery”.
He charged the officers to justify the confidence the management reposed in them.
