The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has arrested eight suspected vandals of public infrastructure in different parts of the FCT.

NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters, Wuse, Abuja, on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Monica Ojobi, Odumosu, said the arrest of the suspects was in continuation of a full-scale assault against vandals in Abuja.

He maintained that the arrests were in line with the resolve to chase vandals out of the FCT through a renewed operational strategy and “I am glad we are getting results”.

“My covert operatives with the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team (CNAI) are in town on 24-hours surveillance and monitoring to prevent any occurrence of vandalism, especially at this period of the year”, he said.

Four of the suspects were arrested at Idu Layout CITEC, Abuja, at about 2:10 am with vandalized Solar Panel Poles.

Exhibits recovered included five vandalized gigantic street light poles, One (1) vandalized solar panel pole and over 40 pieces of iron rods.

The statement added that the investigation is ongoing and suspects would be charged in court accordingly.

Odumosu expressed anger at the level of destruction of public infrastructure by the hoodlums who have infiltrated the territory to destroy the steadily growing infrastructure that the government is providing for the citizens.

He assured the Hon Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike of putting a stop to the sabotage and wickedness being perpetrated on the city infrastructure on a daily basis by these criminal elements and warned them that the manhunt for vandals is still ongoing.

“We are not going to allow the efforts of the Hon Minister of FCT in infrastructural development to be sabotaged by some good-for-nothing individuals working against the state.

“I will continue to warn you to relocate out of the FCT because we are not backing down until vandalism is brought to an end in the Federal Capital Territory” he warned.

The FCT Commandant solicited the cooperation and assistance of the residents of the FCT in the area of credible information and intelligence to help the Corps in its fight against vandalism and other related crimes.
