The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has said its operatives have brought the civil unrest in Kuchibyi community, arising from a land dispute in the nation’s capital, Abuja, under control.
The Command, which refuted claims in a viral video circulating on social media that the unrest was between the police and youths of the community, also condemned the youths’ attack on police officers who were on a mission to restore law and order in the troubled area.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, as saying:
“The FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding a civil unrest incident stemming from a land dispute at Kuchibyi community under Byazin Division.
The Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of Byazin and Kubwa swiftly mobilized to the scene and brought the situation under control. Arrests have been made, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

As mentioned in the video referenced above, it is important to clarify that the issue is a communal dispute and not in any way related to the police. The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, strongly condemns the actions of the youths who attacked police officers trying to restore law and order in the area.
He warned that such behavior will not be tolerated and that firm action will be taken against anyone who attacks police officers or any security personnel responding to distress calls.
The Command urges the youths to be law-abiding, to desist from acts capable of breaching the peace or inciting violence, and to remain dependable allies in the overall security of the FCT. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the FCT.
Further updates will be communicated in due course.”
