FCMB Group Plc has projected a profit after tax of N79.63 billion for the third quarter ending September 30, 2026, reinforcing the strong earnings trajectory that has seen the financial services group deliver record profitability and a significantly strengthened balance sheet in its latest reported financial year.
According to the group’s earnings forecast filed with regulators, FCMB expects gross earnings of N339.32 billion in the third quarter, driven largely by projected interest income of N294.98 billion. Net interest income is forecast at N163.38 billion after accounting for interest expenses of N131.60 billion, while transaction commissions, trading income and other non-interest revenue streams are expected to contribute meaningfully to overall earnings. The group projects profit before tax of N98.16 billion and profit after tax of N79.63 billion for the quarter.
The forecast comes on the heels of a landmark financial performance in the 2025 financial year, when FCMB Group posted profit after tax of N176.91 billion, representing a 141 per cent increase from N73.34 billion recorded in the preceding year. Profit attributable to shareholders rose to N169.18 billion from N65.72 billion, while gross earnings climbed to N1.13 trillion from N794.43 billion.
The group’s earnings expansion was underpinned by a surge in interest income, which rose to N1.00 trillion from N621.80 billion, helping net interest income more than double to N502.89 billion. Fee and commission income also strengthened, contributing to a broader diversification of revenue sources.

Analysts note that the Q3 forecast, if achieved, would place FCMB on track to sustain the robust profitability levels recorded in 2025 despite expectations of moderating interest rates and tighter regulatory oversight across the banking sector.
Beyond profitability, the group’s balance sheet also showed marked improvement. Total assets rose to N7.54 trillion at the end of 2025 from N7.05 trillion a year earlier, while shareholders’ funds expanded by nearly 20 per cent to N823.42 billion from N688.98 billion. Customer deposits increased to N4.40 trillion, underscoring continued confidence in the institution and providing a stable funding base for future growth.
FCMB’s liquidity profile remains strong. The group ended 2025 with cash and cash equivalents of about N1.30 trillion and generated net operating cash flow of N1.67 trillion during the year.
For the third quarter of 2026, FCMB forecasts net cash generated from operating activities to remain negative at N75.52 billion due largely to expected working capital adjustments. However, substantial inflows from investing activities are projected to drive a net increase of N244.09 billion in cash and cash equivalents, lifting cash balances to an estimated N921.58 billion by the end of September.
The juxtaposition of FCMB’s recent financial results and its latest earnings guidance highlights a group that is seeking to consolidate gains from an exceptional earnings cycle while maintaining liquidity and capital strength. With projected quarterly profit approaching N80 billion and a balance sheet already above the N7.5 trillion mark, investors will be watching closely to see whether the financial services group can sustain its growth momentum amid evolving macroeconomic and regulatory conditions.
The outlook also comes at a time when Nigerian banks are racing to meet new capital requirements and strengthen buffers against economic shocks, making FCMB’s earnings resilience and cash-generation capacity key indicators for shareholders and the broader market.
