Excitement filled the campus of the Franco-British International University (FBIU) in Kaduna on Wednesday as 362 newly admitted students took their matriculation oath for the 2025/2026 academic session. This event marked a significant milestone in the university’s growth and academic development.

The inaugural matriculation ceremony attracted parents, guardians, government officials, academics, invited guests, and well-wishers from across the country who gathered to witness the formal admission of the students into the university community.

The announcement was signed by Professor Abdullahi Sabo, Vice Chancellor of the university, and a copy was made available to the press in Kano.

The students were admitted into four academic schools: the School of Nursing Sciences, the School of Health Sciences, the School of Computing, and the School of Social and Management Sciences.

Addressing the gathering, the President of FBIU, Professor Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, congratulated the students on behalf of the university management and described the occasion as a defining moment in both the students’ lives and the history of the institution.

He noted that the ceremony officially marked the commencement of the students’ academic journey and urged them to embrace the opportunities available at the university.

The Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, charged the students to remain focused on their studies and avoid immoral behaviour and other social vices.

Prof. Gwarzo emphasized that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse and reiterated its commitment to producing graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to the development of Nigeria and the African continent.

He also announced plans to establish an Internationalisation Unit at the university, aimed at providing students with access to scholarships, academic exchange programmes, and global learning opportunities.

In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of FBIU, Senator Shehu Sani, urged the matriculating students to uphold discipline, integrity, and good character, stressing that these values are essential for academic success and the preservation of the university’s reputation.

Other dignitaries who addressed the students included the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr; the Registrar of MAAUN Niger and Nigeria, Dr. Shu’aibu Usman Tanko; and the representative of the Canadian University of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim.

The speakers described the students as fortunate to secure admission into one of the emerging universities in sub-Saharan Africa and encouraged them to take full advantage of the academic and personal development opportunities available.

Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), Dr. Baba Muhammad Yakubu, commended the university for offering programmes tailored to contemporary societal needs and aligned with international standards.

The ceremony reached its climax when the Vice President Administration of FBIU administered the matriculation oath, formally inducting the 362 students into the university community amid cheers from family members and guests.

The event underscored FBIU’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and international engagement as it continues to expand its footprint in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
