Governor Kayode Fayemi
Ekiti state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has disclosed that the drive to attract more development and seek financial supports were reasons behind his frequent absence from the state.
The opposition, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had alleged that Fayemi’s frequent absence was negatively affecting governance and development in the state.
Fayemi spoke in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti South Senatorial District on Thursday during a town hall meeting with representatives of all the six local government in the district ahead of the preparation for the 2020 budget.
The governor who spoke in Yoruba, however, noted that his efforts had been yielding favourable results, adding that the World Bank had released huge amount of money for developmental projects in the state.

He said,” I have not been staying in the state these days. I have been looking for money to finance people-oriented projects because I don’t have the funds.
“I am happy God has been answering our prayers. World Bank had just released humongous funds to finance constructions rural roads, modern markets and other projects.
“In addition, the Federal Government has given me money to address the areas affected by flood across the state.”
Fayemi maintained that the town hall meeting was called to aggregate opinions from residents in order to capture their needs in the preparation of the 2020 appropriation bill.
The governor said his administration remained resolute to return governance to grassroots in order to effect genuine socio-economic growth and development.
“I assure every local government that their requests and demands will be carefully considered and accommodated in the 2020 budget,” he said.
