Father remanded in Kirikiri for alleged sexual abuse of 6 year-old daughter

For allegedly inserting his fingers into his six year old daughter’s genital, a man in his mid 30s was, on Wednesday, remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons on the orders of an Ikeja High Court.

Agu Echezona Harrison was reported to the authorities by his wife. He was also accused of threatening his wife after she reported him.

The defendant who was arraigned on one count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration contrary to section 259 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the information before the court,  the defendant who resides at no, 23, Rotimi Omotosho street, Isheri Odun. Lagos State, had, between 2013 to 2015, sexually assaulted his daughter (name withheld) by inserting his finger into the girl’s vagina.

The Lagos State counsel, Mr. Adebayo Haroun, informed the court that the victim is defendant’s daughter, adding that  the defendant had been threatening the complainant, who happens to be his wife and mother of the victim.

Mr. Haroun urged the the court to refuse the prayers of the defendant for bail.

The judge in her ruling said: “Iin the interest of justice, I demand accelerated hearing in this matter,” she ruled.

The judge further said that the defendant should be remanded in the Kirikiri maximum prison.

The matter was adjourned till November 20  for commencement of trial.
