Father impregnates 17-year-old daughter, attempts abortion in Ogun

A father named Ganiyu Aikore is reported to have impregnated his 17-year-old daughter (whose name is withheld), and also attempted to abort the pregnancy in the Mokola Isale Tapa area of Abeokuta, Ogun state.

According to information obtained from a police source on Wednesday, upon discovering that he had impregnated his daughter, Aikore allegedly approached a nearby pharmaceutical store to procure what was suspected to be abortion pills.

The victim suspected the drugs her father gave her were to terminate the 23-week-old pregnancy, so she opened up to some residents of the community, who in turn reported the matter to the chairman of the community.

Subsequently, the chairman took the daughter to the Adatan Police Division to file complaints against her father.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the police command, Omolola Odutola, said preliminary investigation showed that Aikore had been having carnal knowledge of his daughter for years.

“We have arrested him. He was suspected to have been sexually involved with his teenage daughter for a very long time. The pregnancy is 23 weeks. We are conducting further investigation,” she confirmed via a WhatsApp message on Wednesday.
