Fashola seeks review of Public Procurement Act 2007

Published by

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has called for the review of ýPublic Procurement Act 2007ý.

He said that the Act was inimical to achieving quick intervention in urgent situations.

Speaking when he received President of Nigeria Society of Engineers, Otis Anyaeji, with some executive membersý of the association in his office, Fashola described the procurement process as over regulated.

He wondered why a developing economy should have such an over-regulated procurement process.

The minister challenged Nigerian engineers to close up the vacuum that   allowed foreign firms to take over and dominate the Nigerian infrastructural sector and argued that no serious government would prefer foreign firms to indigenous ones except if such indigenous firms are not proactive.

Earlier, Anyaeji canvassed for holistic review of the country’s project-execution strategies.
