The Concerned Rivers Citizens (CRC) has countered false claims by a pro-Fubara group alleging that Rivers lawmakers would compromise a verdict.
Addressing the media in Port Harcourt on Sunday night, CRC coordinator Emmanuel Chibuzor stated: “The attention of Concerned Rivers Citizens (CRC) has been drawn to false claims by a pseudo group of Governor Fubara, nicknamed Citizens Advocacy Against Corruption, alleging that Rivers lawmakers would compromise a verdict.
“They forgot that the obvious settlement of Court 4 by Governor Fubara, through a retired Supreme Court judge, is still fresh in the memory of Rivers people.”
However, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, promptly urged the judge to recuse himself, as another judge had boasted about having ‘delivered.’ Yet, the judge refused to step down, determined to fulfil the agreement.
The protest was then taken to the head of the court, who acted in the interest of fairness and justice. This action has caused fear and anger among the judge and the Fubara camp, leading them to resort to paid advertisements to blackmail the judiciary, such as the ad by Citizens Advocacy Against Corruption.
“We advise the retired judge to desist from attempts to compromise the judiciary and urge serving judicial officers to be cautious of her, as we are monitoring her actions.”
