Failed homes responsible for Nigeria’s security, other problems — Scholar

NIGERIA is faced with an exponential security threat and other nagging problems that are brought on by products of homes that failed to nurture them in accordance with the injunction of Allah.

A scholar, Dr Shakirulah Badmos, stated this last weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State, at one in the 1443/2022 Ramadan lecture series of the Anfani, Imalefalafia, Ososami and Environs Muslim Community (AIOMC), hosted by Iba Oluyole Mosque, Anfani.

According to Badmos, Nigeria’s moral fabric has been torn apart and the country is struggling to provide a safe haven for its people because the basic unit of its sociological makeup, the family, has failed.

He spoke on the topic ‘The Impact of Successful and Failed Muslim Homes on the Society’ at the programme presided over by the chairman of the AIOMC, Alhaji Saheed Qasim.

The cleric lamented that “most parents have shirked their responsibility of training their children to show mercy and compassion towards animals, much less fellow humans, which is the reason virtually all news outlets in the country today are replete with stories of man’s inhumanity to man in the forms of killings, kidnappings and other reprehensible acts, practically on a daily basis.”

The scholar said as a way out of the problems, Nigerians, especially Muslims, must, in the first instance, embrace the duty of ensuring that marriages between men and women are contracted legitimately, as prescribed by Allah, and see that children are brought up with the fear of God so that they could go on to impact the society positively.

He urged political leaders to rule with the fear of God and called on the citizenry to retrace their steps and embrace virtuous living so that security, peace and development could return to the country.

Badmos enumerated the rules laid down by Allah for Muslims to achieve successful marriages and homes, which he described as the nucleus of any functional society.

A highlight of the programme was a quiz competition for youngsters to test their knowledge of Islam, the Qur’an and Islamic affairs in their immediate environments and the society at large. Prizes were given to children who provided correct answers to questions.
