The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has secured the federal government’s approval for a temporary closure of Ibadan Airport, also known as Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA), Ibadan, Oyo State, for upgrade works.
FAAN disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, signed by its Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah.
Following the approval, FAAN stated that “the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has closed the Runway and the Airport in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.”
Continuing, the airports’ authority explained that the upgrade of Ibadan Airport from a domestic to an international airport is part of the Oyo State government’s initiative, adding that “various improvements and remodeling works are currently underway.”
The statement further explained that the closure was imperative to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.
“FAAN appeals to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this period,” the authority urged.
