Expert tips African women on how to prevent hair loss, breakage

African women have been provided with valuable tips on preventing hair loss, breakage, and dandruff.

A Natures Gentle Touch representative delivered an insightful talk on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, during a journalists hangout and a tea party.

She emphasised the importance of understanding one’s hair texture for effective hair care, noting that not all hair products suit different textures.

Confidence in one’s African natural hair was encouraged, alongside using suitable products and regularly assessing the scalp’s condition.

The speaker addressed common hair issues, their root causes, and potential solutions:

Hair Breakage: This occurs when the hair shaft weakens and snaps, often due to excessive heat styling, chemical treatments, overbrushing, or harsh hair products.

Dry, Brittle Hair: This condition results from a lack of moisture, making hair fragile and prone to breakage. Causes include excessive heat styling, overuse of hair products, exposure to harsh weather, and inadequate hydration. Solutions involve using moisturizing products, minimizing heat styling, protecting hair from environmental damage, and maintaining a balanced diet rich in nutrients.

Split Ends: Split ends occur when the protective outer layer of the hair shaft, the cuticle, becomes damaged. Regular trims, proper hair care, and reducing styling damage can help prevent split ends.

Hair Loss: Alopecia, or hair loss, can stem from various factors, including traction alopecia (caused by tight hairstyles), alopecia areata (an autoimmune disorder), and postpartum hair loss (common after childbirth). While postpartum hair loss is a natural process, maintaining a healthy diet can support hair growth.

Dandruff: This scalp condition is characterized by flaking and itching and can result from dry skin, fungal infections, sensitivity to hair products, or seborrheic dermatitis. Good scalp hygiene and gentle hair care practices can help alleviate symptoms.

Practicing proper hair care tailored to one’s hair type and addressing underlying issues can promote healthier, more resilient hair for African women, which is the ultimate goal of Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute.

In conclusion, Natures Gentle Touch Hair Institute offers a diverse range of products for both relaxed and natural African hair, aiming to promote shining, longer, and healthier African hair.
