One-time president of the Yoruba community in Benue State, Asiwaju Isaac Akinkunmi, on Wednesday, distributed yoghurt worth N2 million to some nursing mothers in Makurdi.
Akinkunmi, who is the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director (CEO/MD) of the Tito group of companies based in Makurdi, visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in the capital city, where he made the distribution.
He said that the gesture was part of his company’s social responsibility to host community events to commemorate the just-ended breastfeeding week
Akinkunmi said that Greek and probiotic yoghurts were distributed to pregnant and nursing mothers.
The FMC was also to contribute their quota towards improving the feeding of the mothers and encouraging proper breastfeeding for the babies.
The business mogul who noted that breast milk is best for babies said, “We do know that for your vehicle to perform well, you need to feed it with fuel and oil it with grease, and so it is for nursing mothers.
They need to feed properly with a diet to allow the milk to flow.
That goes the same for expectant mothers, who must feed properly during gestation in order to give birth to strong and healthy babies.”
“Our mission is to donate our products, Tito Yoghurt Plus, which is Greek, probiotic, and bacteria-loaded, to the mothers to enable their bodies to produce the required results as nursing mothers.
He said yoghurt has a tremendous effect on health as it can help in rejuvenation, maintaining the gastrointestinal tract, building immunity, helping in digestion, and being antagonistic to many pathogens, which are disease-causing agents.
“Probiotics are to adults what breast milk is to babies. We are at this facility (FMC) to contribute our quota to improve breastfeeding,” he said.
Akinkunmi appreciated the management of FMC for allowing the company to use their facility for the distribution exercise.
Earlier, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the FMC, Mrs Veronica Ochayi, who stood in for the Head of Nursing, Mrs Elizabeth Ekefan, and the new Medical Director, Joseph Kortor, commended the Tito group for choosing the facility for the free presentation of the yoghurts to nursing and expectant mothers.
Ochayi, who stressed that yoghurt helps nursing and pregnant mothers carry their babies to full term while also nourishing them to breastfeed, appreciated the company for the work they are doing in the state and Nigeria as a whole and prayed to God to reward them with much abundance.
Speaking to our correspondent, one of the benefiting mothers, Sewuese Achi, appreciated the Tito Group of Companies for their kind gesture and for showing concern for the well-being of pregnant and nursing mothers in the state.
